MCH Modernized building Opening Ceremony

[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Yet another historic chapter was unveiled in the colorful history of MCH on the 20th January 2019, when the modernized version of this great institution was re-opened after a SLRs.75million renovation and refurbishment program.  Medical institute of Tamils [doctors-UK] can be proud that  one  of their members Dr. Sittambalam Rajasundaram came forward, well supported by his siblings, to undertake this massive task in memory of their parents who hail from Moolai. With unstinting support from the MCH Board led by the President Mr. M.Gnaneswaran, the work commenced in October 2017 by invoking the blessings of Moolai Vathiranpulo Sithy Vinayakar, and Phase I [OPD] was completed in  january 2019.

We officially celebrated the grand opening ceremony of the newly equipped Primary Care Centre, by senior staff and distinguished visitors lighting the traditional auspicious oil lamp followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony by Dr Sittambalam Rajasundaram and Maharani, his wife. Dr. M.Logendran, the President MIOT UK who was Chief Guest and Mrs. Logendran officiated in the ceremony to unveil the plaque in memory of Late Mr. Kanapathipillai Sittambalam, a distinguished son of Moolai.

The opening ceremony was attended by more than 300 guests including the special invitees from the professional bodies in Colombo, Chairperson of CGPSL, Dr. Jayantha Jayathissa,, MD[SL], President of SLASFP Dr. Mrs.Lalantha Senaratne, MD[SL],  Dr. S. Poologanathan, Head of   Institute of Family Medicine  (IOFM – MIOT UK ,127 Man street, Jaffna), and Overseas Secretary, MIOT UK, Dr. K. Arulanandam, MD[SL], Senior Lecturer, Family Medicine, Eastern University, also representing the PGIM, Dr.A.Ketheeswaran, Northern Provincial Director, Health Services, Mr.Vaheesan, of The Cooperative Department,  Dr.R.Surenthirakumaran, MD[SL] Sen. Lecturer, Community Medicine, Jaffna University, also Acting Medical Suprintendent MCH, Members of MCH Society and other distinguished visitors included the Vice- Chancellor Jaffna University Prof. Vigneswaran.

The theme of the conference was ‘Primary care at the Heart of Holistic Healthcare’ because the purpose of this initiative is to complement the current Sri Lankan (Northern) Ministry of Health Services, which is in the process of a rapidly evolving structure to Primary Healthcare in the island. We are endeavoring to collaborate with the best known primary healthcare structure in the world, the NHS UK on an international basis, by linking up with the main Primary Care hierarchy in Sri Lanka.

Hence the importance and the significance of the representatives of the SLASFP, CGPSL and the PGIM participating and pledging their support to extend post graduate training in family medicine in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. This in effect will become a vital initiative of public –private enterprise. The coordinators of this conference would envisage that the IOFM, MCH and GMH Manipay to become model primary healthcare centres complimenting the state sector.  This development was viewed very favorably by the participants, all the three professional bodies namely SLASFP,CGPSL and the PGIM and we would forge a promising collaboration between the RCGP- UK,  the SLAFP and CGPSL to  consider  an exchange program of primary physicians and trainees to have an opportunity to gain experience in both countries which would be of immense mutual benefit to enhance the quality of Primary Health Care (Family Medicine). In particular the development of Extended  Primary Care to be provided to communities locally so as to avoid unnecessary attendance and intervention in Secondary Care. It would also be an extremely beneficial step in the early detection and treatment of Non Communicable Diseases which would benefit the communities enormously. The twin objectives of good quality extended Primary Health Care and enormous savings of vital resources in the Secondary Care sector   is the ultimate goal of this  Public-Private Enterprise.

The newly refurbished center at the MCH includes Primary Care, Specialist Care in Cardiology,General Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Surgery services. The newly reconstructed and decorated consultation rooms and Sub Fertility Centre will benefit the less fortunate in the local community as they have no access  otherwise,  to such facilities because of prohibitive costs.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”6428,6427,6420,6429,6432,6431,6402,6433,6430,6401,6421,6409,6422,6419,6424,6425,6426,6423″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
